**CODING, NON-CODING, SENSE, AND ANTI-SENSE DNA STRANDS**

RNA polymerase uses the antisense strand of DNA (//aka// template) as a template to synthesize mRNA. The other DNA strand (sense, //aka// non-coding) is not transcribed. The mRNA is read in 5' to 3' direction to produce a protein.
